Section 1- New Cadet Information Introduction Welcome to the RAF Air Cadets!
This cadet book will help you to complete your initial cadet training which will qualify you for your 'First Class' classification and badge. It will also help you to complete your first class logbook.
During the first stage of your training you will learn about the rules and processes of your local Air Training Corps Squadron. You will also learn about the history and organisation of the Air Training Corps. Instructors will teach you how to march and take care of your uniform.
You will then be provided with your own uniform, you will find out about the history and organisation of the Royal Air Force and the history of flight. We will then teach you how to read a map, prepare for an expedition, find out all about airfields and airmanship and practice using a military radio.
Don't forget to ask your instructors questions if you are not sure about something and don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone; take part in the full range of activities and opportunities that the Royal Air Force Air Cadets has to offer!

Section 1- New Cadet Information Squadron Do's & Don'ts
The RAF Air Cadets are sponsored by the Royal Air Force, who provide uniform, equipment and training opportunities. Air Cadets represent the RAF at many events and in some areas the Air Cadets are the only representatives of the RAF. Because of our links with the RAF, it is important that high standards are maintained and cadets represent the RAF properly.
Whilst on your squadron there are some simple instructions you should follow:
Here are some things you should not do whilst at your squadron:
Don't
• Leave the building without telling a member of staff
• Intimidate or bully other cadets
• Behave in a disruptive manner, at any time
• Keep your hands in your uniform pocket
• Salute when not wearing your beret
• Smoke or drink alcohol while on ATC duty or in uniform
• Add or request staff or over 18 cadets to be 'friends' on your social media accounts
Your squadron will probably have their own additional rules that you should also follow. For example staff will tell you what to do in the event of a fire or an accident.
